LMP Laboratory Medicine and PathobiologyOn this page: Introduction | Programs | IntroductionThe Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (www.utoronto.ca/LabMedPathobiology) provides a bridge between basic science and clinical medicine. The investigation of molecular mechanisms of disease is an important priority of the department. The department is concerned with the chemical changes that may be associated with cell and tissue injury and with the etiology, pathogenesis and behaviour of disease. The curriculum of courses and the research projects provide the student with an introduction to carry out the broad based multidisciplinary research used by experimental clinical biochemists, medical microbiologists and pathologists to study mechanisms of disease and metabolic and functional homeostasis. Research is carried out in several areas including cardiovascular disease, immunopathobiology, neurobiology, endocrinology and metabolism, neoplasia, bone and connective tissue disease, clinical and molecular epidemiology, biotechnology, antiobiotic resistance, and molecular pathogenesis of infectious diseases.
