PCL299Y1 Credit course for supervised participation in faculty research project. See page 40 for details. PCL201H1 Topics include absorption, distribution, biotransformation, elimination, calculation of dosages, variability in drug response and adverse drug reactions. PCL302H1 Topics include biological action of drugs on membranes, enzymes, receptors, neural and hormonal systems, transmission and modulation. PCL362H1 Toxicological problems encountered in animals and humans; biochemical mechanisms and clinical factors of toxicological significance; models of drug-related diseases. PCL376H1 A practically oriented course, focused on experimental design and the analysis of pharmacological and toxicological data. Topics include: principles of experimental design, data analysis and statistical tests appropriate for each type, use of computing statistical packages, analysis of dose-response and time-response curves and analysis of receptor binding assays. (See NOTE number 4, below). PCL470Y1 Concepts of the properties of drugs and chemicals and their interaction with living systems and their constituent parts. Mechanism of action and pharmacological properties of drugs acting on the autonomic and central nervous systems, cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, immunological and endocrine systems; endogenous compounds; antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs, chemotherapy and special topics in pharmacology. PCL471Y1 Demonstrations, seminars, and laboratory exercises in selected areas of Pharmacology. PCL472Y1 A research project course providing intensive practical experience in a laboratory or applied pharmacology setting. Students will work under the supervision of a staff member and will submit a final written report. (See NOTES number 2 and 4, below). PCL473Y1 Traditional and contemporary problems in toxicology: general aspects, methodology, nature of toxic damage, general biological problems, poisons, applications and social policies.
