Introduction
St. Michaels College offers a number of programs which emerge from its academic
strength in various scholarly fields and reflect its centuries-old Christian intellectual
traditions. Please consult the relevant brochures for more complete information on each
program.
Celtic Studies:
Examines the development and expression of Celtic Civilization from 600 B.C. to the
present day through courses in archaeology, art history, literature, anthropology, history
and music. Some courses are offered annually while others are offered on a three-year
rotating basis by distinguished international scholars.
Christianity and Culture:
An interdisciplinary exploration from artistic, literary, philosophical, theological,
scientific, social and historical perspectives.
Mediaeval Studies:
An interdisciplinary treatment of the history, art, literature and thought of the
Middle Ages.
Philosophy:
Philosophy courses at St. Michaels College form a distinctive program within the
Department of Philosophy, to which the Philosophy faculty at the College belong.
St. Michaels also offers a number of courses, listed below, which form part of
the above programs, or of the programs of other colleges and departments, or are a
reflection of staff and student academic interests not always available in departmental
course offerings.

Enrolment in St. Michaels College programs is open to students who have completed
four courses; no minimum GPA required.
CELTIC STUDIES (B.A.)

CHRISTIANITY AND CULTURE (B.A.)

The courses of the Christianity and Culture Program include (1) all the SMC prefixed
courses listed below under the Christianity and Culture heading, and (2) the following
courses of other departments: PHL 335H, RLG313Y, 321H, 330H, 331Y, 384H. In addition to Christianity and Culture courses, a
number of other courses are cross-listed and may be counted towards the major and
specialist programs as specified below. This list is available from the Academic Advisor,
