An investigation of poetic meter (iambic, trochaic, etc.) in various languages, tracing evolution of linguistic approaches to rhythm from the Russian Statistical Approach up to Generative Metrics, and a linguistic analysis of the metrical practice of Shakespeare, Milton, Donne, Pushkin, Brodsky, and others.
Prerequisite: Any 300-level course in linguistics, literature or music
