An interdisciplinary introduction to the practice of American Studies organized around key periods in the history of the United
States in which Americans reinvented themselves, thought in novel ways about who they were, and redrew the boundaries that
defined citizenship and membership in the nation. This course illustrates the multi-disciplinary nature of American Studies,
creating a conversation about the United States using materials and approaches from history, literature, cultural studies,
economics and political science.
